Below is an introduction to the rubber expansion joint contract for the Guangdong Zhuhai Power Plant project.
I. Project Overview of Guangdong Zhuhai Power Plant

The Guangdong Zhuhai Power Plant is located in the Nanshui Town, Lingang Industrial Zone, Jinwan District, Zhuhai City, approximately 50 km east of downtown Zhuhai. The plant occupies an area of 1.15 million square meters. It is a large-scale thermal power plant built through a joint venture between domestic and international partners and was a key project under China’s Ninth Five-Year Plan. The project was designed to include six 600MW-class units, with the first phase consisting of two 700MW coal-fired units. The primary equipment for the project was fully imported, with the boilers and turbines supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan, and the generators supplied by Westinghouse, USA. The total investment for the first phase amounted to RMB 9.98 billion. The feasibility study report for the first phase was approved by the State Council in September 1995.

The Zhuhai Power Plant was constructed using internationally advanced design, procurement, and general contracting methods. The project was undertaken by Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as the general contractor. Construction officially began on November 1, 1996. The first unit was put into commercial operation on April 3, 2000, and the second unit followed on February 5, 2001.

The commissioning of the Zhuhai Power Plant has significantly alleviated Guangdong Province’s power shortage, contributing to the economic growth of both Zhuhai City and Guangdong Province. Over the years, the plant’s management and construction have been recognized by higher authorities and industry peers, earning numerous accolades, including:

In 2003, the power plant received the titles of “National Model Workers’ Home,” “Guangdong Province Advanced Collective,” and “Guangdong Province Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization Construction.” It also obtained ISO9000, ISO14000, and OHS18000 certifications for integrated management systems. In 2004, it was recognized as an “Outstanding Unit in the Guangdong Power System for Summer Peak Load Management.”

On June 3, 2004, to implement the strategic development goals of the Guangdong Electric Power Group, construction began on the Phase 1 expansion, adding Units #3 and #4. In November of the same year, the desulfurization projects for Units #1 and #2 also commenced. The completion of these projects will play a crucial role in adjusting the power supply structure in Guangdong Province and alleviating power shortages.
