I. Overview of the CGN Zhejiang Sanao Nuclear Power Project:

The CGN Zhejiang Sanao Nuclear Power Project’s Unit 2 has successfully completed its turbine foundation concrete pouring, marking the beginning of major conventional island construction. The civil engineering work is now fully prepared, ensuring the synchronized progress of both the turbine foundation and plant framework.

This project is set to install six “Hualong One” units, utilizing advanced third-generation nuclear power technology developed in China. The first two units began construction on December 31, 2020, and December 30, 2021, respectively. With 95% of equipment procurement complete, the project has entered its peak construction phase. The “Hualong One” technology, known for its 60-year design life, integrates innovative safety systems that include both active and passive components such as double-layer containment to meet the highest international safety standards.

As part of this project, Songjiang Group provided high-temperature rubber expansion joints, which play a vital role in absorbing thermal expansion and minimizing stress on the pipeline system. These pipeline vibration absorbers also enhance the system’s safety and longevity, ensuring stable operations in harsh conditions. Additionally, the corrosion-resistant rubber expansion joints were chosen due to their ability to withstand the challenging environment often present in nuclear power plants, particularly in systems exposed to chemicals or extreme temperatures.

Once the six units are fully operational, the project will generate up to 52.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, contributing to the clean energy supply of the Yangtze River Delta. This achievement will reduce coal consumption by 15.88 million tons and CO₂ emissions by 43.68 million tons annually, equivalent to afforesting 118,000 hectares, directly supporting China’s “dual carbon” strategy for sustainable development.
